Do I need a proofreader or sensitivity reader?

Writing about a person, place, or topic you have little to no experience with can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Even if you are a part of the underrepresented group you are writing about, I can guarantee that your work would benefit from a proofreader or a sensitivity reader. Perhaps all your prose needs is one more perspective to get through that last edit before sending it off to a publisher, or you simply need someone to check consistency. Either way, my thoroughness and attention-to-detail will be a great asset during the revision process.

Proofreaders check textual consistency, formatting, and last-minute grammar such as punctuation, spelling, and typos. No matter how good your editorial team is, we are all prone to errors that may linger when final products have tight deadlines and copious edits. Fine-tune your organization’s published material by hiring a proofreader who can catch those errors before they’re published.

Sensitivity readers can provide feedback on topics including but not limited to gender, race/ethnicity, religion, culture, history, location, and profession. While your story may not be lacking in respectability or imagination, I can elevate the authenticity and depth of your story with my own feedback.
